A couple months ago he mentioned that the school was going to be taking some students there and that he wanted to apply. There are about 1500 students at his school and they were only going to take 60, so he had to fill out an application and write a short essay on why he should be able to go. A couple days later he got a letter in one of his classes saying that he was accepted for the trip. I was so worried about whether he would be accepted I didn't really think about him being gone overnight for three days. But, he was super excited and went off to have fun without us.
These pictures were taken with Donald's disposable waterproof camera, so they aren't the best quality, but you get the idea.
He got to go on two snorkel trips, one where he got to see a sea slug and some urchins and a night snorkel where they saw some lobsters and at one point they turned their lights off and saw green phosphorescent bacteria glowing green all around them. They went on a hike and saw the beautiful view and learned about the history and geology of the island. They went for a canoe ride where Donald got a bum partner who didn't want to row :P. They got to dissect squid and write with their ink sacks and did a lab looking at plankton under a microscope where they had to identify which type they had. His were phytoplankton. They got to sleep in cabins and travel on a big boat and be crazy kids. He had a great time, but we were both glad when he came home.
