Back in January Don and I were asked to give talks in Sacrament meeting. As we discussed it with the bishopric they mentioned the need for youth speakers. Being the wonderful volunteer mother that I am, I pointed at Donald and said he would love to do it. Brother Barker told Donald that is what is called throwing your son under the bus. The next Wednesday they called me and said that they had asked Donald at mutual to give a talk in Sacrament the following Sunday. He said he would love to do it and his topic was on temples. Since Donald turned 12 in November I have been wanting to take him to the temple to do baptisms and this was just another reason to plan the trip to go.
We went to the Redlands temple and took some family file names.
To do family names you have to bring endowed brothers with you. Todd and Emily Moran and Greg Solesbee were kind enough to come help us out. So glad they could come share this fun day with us.
Donald made sure that we got a picture of where it says "The House of the Lord". While we were at the font a wonderful man was helping us with the ordinances and before Donald got in the water he shared a wonderful little story with us. He said he has never had the opportunity to see the Sacred Grove or visit Jerusalem, but the temple president has testified that this temple truly is the house of the Lord and Jesus Christ has walked the halls of the temple, and even though he has not been those special places he still is able to walk on sacred ground each week as he serves in the temple. Thanks little old man for that beautiful testimony of the sacredness of temples, I know it helped Donald reflect on the importance of what he was doing there.
"What's up Richard?"....Silly Todd!
I am so glad I got to share this experience with Donald and that he was so excited to be a part of something so special. He said he can't wait to do it again and he did a fantastic job on his first Sacrament Meeting talk. I think he might be growing up just a little too fast, but I am actually enjoying seeing him turn into a young man.
