The other door

The other day I showed the cupboard door that we refinished to a neighbor, who mentioned that it would look good with a mirror in it.  What a great idea!  So I found a place that cuts glass and mirror and made my last cupboard door into a mirror for our entry hall.

When we first moved in I had no idea what to do with this space,
but now after a year and a half it is finally done.

Swim Banquet

Tonight was the boys' swim team annual awards banquet.
Donald and Cisco with the coaches.
Eli with Coach Wayne and Coach John.

Eli earned a special award for "Most Dedicated".
This is the award.  It is a bobble head and actually resembles Eli a little.
Donald got "Coaches Award" for his group.

 Donald with Coach Jeff.
A couple weeks ago Eli was in a relay race and it turns out that his relay team now has a team record for the fastest 5-8 age group freestyle relay.  Here is their team with Coach Wayne.  He was so proud of them.
And Eli with Coach Wayne and his award.
Donald, Cole and Cisco.  They all got special awards, but I am not sure I remember what Cole got his for.  Cisco got "Most Improved".
They had a good night!

No more mess under the sink

I don't know what other people do but my whole life I have lived in homes where we saved the little plastic bags that groceries come in so that we can reuse them for small trash cans or picking oranges from the back yard or guests carrying home their wet swimming suits, etc.   Every time we go to the store we have the same routine...food in the fridge and throw the bags under the sink.  It has gotten to the point where all I can see under the sink is a huge mass of plastic bags.  Well...no more!  I am done with the massive bag mess.  We finished off a #10 food storage can of sugar last week and I had some left over material from a baby shower gift so I figured out a solution.
I cutified the can by hot gluing the material around it, cut a slot in the lid and voila...I have a beautiful plastic bag dispenser for under my sink.  I was amazed by how many bags I can fit in it and how much space it saves under the sink.

Armoire Refinished

A couple months ago I walked into my room and realized what a mess our TV area was.  There were the kids video games and countless cords everywhere.  I thought, wouldn't it be nice to be able to hide all those things and have a beautiful piece of furniture instead.  So we got on Craig's list and found an inexpensive armoire.  It sat in our garage for a while but after we finally finished our kitchen we started painting it.  6 or 7 coats of paint later and it went from this....
 To this

Once we got it in the room I realized that I didn't like the upper doors on it.  They kind of stick out weird and I don't think we would ever close them, so I decided to use the doors for other things.  I put some of the leftover beadboard in the middle, distressed it a little with the sander and added some vinyl letters.  I love this so much, it is one of my favorite things that I have made so far.

The other door we are either going to make into a hope chest for the foot of our bed or into another wall hanging in our entry hall.
